Finally, I clicked on "Add Entry"

Yup, still here.....  I know it's been over a month since I've last updated; just dealing with my seasonal funk.  I really have no reason to be in a funk, life is good for the most part.   But that doesn't matter, winter time comes and I become blue....  Never imagined myself living any place else other than New England, my roots are here.  But as the years pass, it seems my winter time blues are becoming stronger.  I might have to someday re-examine my feelings about living here in the winter.  Future Florida snow bird?  ....Ah well.  Lots of time to think about it before that phase of my life comes to be.  For now, I deal with the funk.

January has been a month of extremes.  So far, we've had one week of bitter cold and two weeks of temps in the upper 40's, 50's and yesterday it hit 60 degrees!   I couldn't believe how beautiful it was.  Because these temps are so unusual for January, we headed to the beach.  The kids grabbed their buckets and Mike took his metal detector.  Although 3- year-old Mikey was sure we'd find "gold" no treasures were discovered, unless one considers a rusted fishing lure and a penny treasure.   The kids collected shells, built a sand castle and even took their shoes and socks off to dip their toes in the ocean.    Other than the horses and dogs running in the water, I had the only two humans that were crazy enough to venture in.  A few waves hit Mikey soaking him to his thighs, he didn't even flinch.  He said the water wasn't cold, but his little feet were red.  After 5 minutes of pretending it was still summer, I made them dry their feet and put their shoes and socks back on.  We stayed for 2 hours at the beach, had a great time.  The other day as we were riding in the car running errands, Mikey said....  "Mom, our world is wrong, it's broken."   ....I didn't answer him, but I think he may be right.

Let's see, what else is going on....

I picked up another shift at work, a 3-11 shift on Mondays.  Mike wasn't thrilled I decided to pick up another day, but it's made a tremendous difference in my paycheck.

Spencer has decided against going to college for criminal justice and instead would like to become a fire fighter.   Instead of a 4 year college, we are now looking into a 2 year college for his associates degree in the fire service.   My Dad was a fire fighter, worked his way up to Deputy Chief.  I spent my childhood worrying about my Dad everytime I heard the fire alarms go off, and now I will worry about my son.   But that's ok.  It's a brave and noble job, a calling.  And just as my Dad made me proud, so will my son.  I think my Dad would have loved it, if his son's had followed him into fire fighting (one son did for a short while)....but it wasn't meant to be.   Now it appears one of his grandson's will....

Sammi got her haircut.  Long curly hair that was once almost waist long, is now not as curly & up off her shoulder's.  She wanted her hair "cut up to her ears like the blonde girls at school", we compromised and let her have it cut to her shoulders.   She's loving ballet & seems to have a talent for it.  My little girl, although still very tiny (she only weighs 36 lbs) is definitely growing up.   Speaking of growing up, it's already time to enroll Mikey for preschool in September.   He'll be the youngest in his class as he just made the cut off date of August 31st.  (His birthday is August 31st).  He'll only go for 2 days a week like Sammi, he's really looking forward to it.  And if the truth be known, so am I.  Ok, so I know that last comment will disqualify me for any "Mom Of The Year" awards, but my life with the mischievous duo is sometimes overwhelming, looking forward to a few hours of sanity.

Well, today is another beautiful day.  Not as warm as yesterday....but certainly doesn't feel like January.  (Unfortunately, that's supposed to change tomorrow, possible snow is in the forcast).  A few hours ago Sammi asked me what we were doing today.  She said, "Mom, are we going to the beach, to the park, or will we just stay home and be boring watchingTV?"     Too nice to stay home and be boring, so we'll be going out.    We're going to the Arts and Science Center today to see an aeriel dance performance,  Sammi's ballet teacher is one of the performer's.   Yikes, it's after 1pm, showtime is at 2pm and all of us are still in pajama's.   Oh, did I tell you that "no more procrastinating" is one of my New Year's resolutions?

Not doing so well with that one....  : )
